Description
The causeway extension to Granite Island was built in 1867 to service the Working Pier and The Screw Pile Jetty. By the 1890's, the port was losing it's commercial importance. In December 1894, the horse drawn tram was introduced to cater to the increasing number of visitors to Victor Harbor. In 1956 the horses were replaced by engines, namely a tractor and later a land rover, mocked up to look like a steam train. To celebrate the 150th Jubilee in 1986, John Drennan and the Victor Harbor Council received funding to re-introduce the horse drawn trams. That service recommenced in June, 1986 and is as popular as ever.
